The interest of each country at a national level and Europe as a whole in improving health services, with the aim of creating a common platform on health issues, has resulted in the rapid development of standardization activity in this field, both at the level of European technical committees, but also at the level of developing harmonized standards. Also, there are numerous collaborations between European technical committees of the sector and corresponding committees of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

In addition, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has set up the CEN Advisory Board for Healthcare Standards since December 2005 to support health standardization work, with the aim of supporting committees, coordinating committees, and managing orders arriving at CEN from the European Union.
