Health & Safety at work

The Health & Safety Sector is an area in which the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has been very active. The interest at European level for improving the working conditions and the safety of workers has resulted in the quick development of standardization in this area, both at the level of European technical committees and at the level of developing harmonized standards. Also, there are many collaborations of European technical committees in the field with respective committees of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) but also with committees in areas related to this issue such as machinery, equipment, transport, electrical issues, etc.

The field of Occupational Safety & Health at CEN is divided into the following subsectors: Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), which deals with issues that generally concern the workplace and employees as a whole. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which deals with equipment and personal protection measures.
