The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS), under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, successfully hosted the CEN and CENELEC Annual Meeting from 16 to 19 June 2026 in Agia Napa, Cyprus.<\/p>\n

The meeting brought together leading representatives of the European and international standardisation community, including members of CEN and CENELEC, partner organisations and key stakeholders, reaffirming Cyprus\u2019 role as an important platform for dialogue, cooperation and exchange within the field of standardisation.<\/p>\n

Over four days, delegates participated in a series of high-level meetings addressing governance matters, strategic priorities and the future development of the European Standardisation System, including its role in supporting competitiveness, innovation, resilience and sustainability.<\/p>\n

As part of the Open Session of the CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies, delegates attended two high-level panel discussions focusing on \u201cEuropean Standardisation at a Turning Point: Competitiveness, Innovation, Resilience\u201d and \u201cStandards for a Secure Digital Europe: The Cyprus Contribution\u201d.<\/p>\n

The first discussion brought together senior representatives of the European Commission, CEN, ETSI and the Cypriot Ministry of Energy, Commerce & Industry, focusing specifically on the strategic role of standardisation in enhancing competitiveness, fostering innovation and reinforcing Europe\u2019s resilience in a rapidly evolving global environment.<\/p>\n

The second discussion focused on Cyprus\u2019 role in Europe\u2019s digital future, addressing key areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, trusted semiconductor technologies and quantum innovation. Moderated by the Chief Scientist of Cyprus, the panel brought together senior national representatives of Cyprus in European standardisation. The discussion highlighted national expertise and Europe\u2019s shared priorities in strengthening digital trust, technological sovereignty and secure innovation ecosystems.<\/p>\n

The successful organisation of the Annual Meeting reflects the commitment, professionalism and capability of CYS to host major standardisation gatherings. It also contributed to strengthening Cyprus\u2019 visibility and presence within the European standardisation community while supporting the broader objectives of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.<\/p>\n

Through this important gathering, Cyprus once again demonstrated its commitment to European cooperation and to advancing standardisation as a key driver of quality, innovation, competitiveness and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
