These engagements further reinforced CYS’ position as an active and trusted partner within the European standardisation community, reflecting its growing capacity to contribute to strategic cooperation and long-term institutional collaboration.

The Annual Meeting also provided a valuable platform for networking and knowledge exchange among European and international stakeholders, facilitating the sharing of best practices and reinforcing the importance of cooperation in addressing emerging regulatory, technological and market challenges.

Beyond the institutional dimension, the event also served as a platform to promote Cyprus’ cultural identity and heritage. The official logo of the event featured the cross-shaped symbol of Pomos, an ancient emblem of Cyprus, highlighting the island’s historical continuity and cultural richness.

During the four-day programme, CYS also collaborated with the Cyprus Handicraft Centre, hosting artisans who demonstrated live traditional crafts, including Lefkaritika lace and Phythkiotika weaving, both of which are safeguarded through National Cypriot Standards developed by CYS. These demonstrations showcased Cyprus’ living heritage and highlighted the role of standardisation in preserving and promoting traditional craftsmanship alongside contemporary creativity and design.

Special emphasis was also placed on the transmission of traditional skills to younger generations. Students from Agios Neophytos Lyceum in Paphos participated in the presentation of Phythkiotika textiles, reflecting engagement, creativity and intergenerational collaboration, and demonstrating how tradition can inspire contemporary expression.

The programme further highlighted the value of standardisation in Cyprus through the presentation of the first Cypriot Standard, dedicated to ancient copper ingots, accompanied by a live demonstration by a master coppersmith. This offered delegates a unique opportunity to experience Cyprus’ long-standing metallurgical and artisanal heritage while illustrating the historical roots of standardisation on the island.

Across all activities, the message was clear: Cypriot standardisation is not only about technical alignment, but also about preserving tradition, fostering innovation, and connecting heritage with modern industry and design.

Through this parallel programme, CYS successfully showcased the close relationship between standardisation, culture and creativity, reinforcing its role in a country bridging tradition and innovation within Europe.

Building on the successful hosting of the CEN and CENELEC Annual Meeting 2026, the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) further strengthened its role as a hub for cooperation, cultural exchange and engagement in the field of standardisation.
