Cyprus Organization of Standardization responding to the need and interest from Cyprus Industry for specialty courses and in view of near future developments in the field of exploration and exploitation of Oil and Natural Gas reserves, is organizing a relevant two-day course on «Corrosion of Steels. Prevention by using Cathodic Protection and / or Self Protecting Alloys. Steels for the Oil and Gas Industry and Other Harsh Conditions».
Drilling for Natural Gas and Crude Oil, as well as the production, processing, storage and transportation, inflicts huge stresses and corrosion on the materials used in oil and gas industry equipment. The environment is aggressive due to acid-bearing fluids used during drilling operations as well as the presence of sulphur and hydrogen sulphide that induce corrosion in pipelines.
Similar aggressive environments in Cyprus exist in Natural Gas and Oil storage and transportation, Marine Structures, Desalination, Sewage Treatment Plants, Power Plants, Hydrometallurgical Process Plants (e.g. copper production), Food and Beverage Industry as well as in High Temperature Processing Plants and Solar Water Heaters.
Metals used in the oil and gas industry as well as in the above industrial applications under harsh conditions have to withstand all of these conditions.
Instructor: George Katodrytis
Georgios Katodrytis has lectured for 10 years at the Cyprus University of Technology (Assistant Professor) and 30 years at the Higher Technical Institute (Senior Lecturer). He specializes in the fields of Material Science (material testing), Metallurgy (metal heat treatments, metal casting technology), Corrosion of Metals and Protection. At the Cyprus University of Technology, he successfully organized and executed Educational Programs in the field of Corrosion and Metal Protection. He has collaborated with the French Corrosion Institute (affiliated with Swerea Kimab Stockholm) and CEFRACOR (French Certification of Corrosion) in research and educational programs on Corrosion and Metal Protection (sea sector). He served as the Scientific Responsible of the Ministry of Education for the Technician Examinations in Technical Education (General Mechanical Engineering) and as a member of the Evaluation Committee for the educational programs “Diploma Technician Courses on Oil and Gas” at private Universities of Frederick, UCLAN, Intercollege, and Global College. Finally, he is currently the National Representative of Cyprus through the Cyprus Organization for Standardization in the ISO/TC156 “Corrosion of Metals and Alloys” and CEN/TC 219/WG3 “Cathodic Protection” committees.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the training.
