The European standardisation is voluntary activity that is practiced by and for the interested parts that wish they establish model and other products of standardisation in order to they cover their needs.

These products of standardisation are produced by the European committee of standardisation, the European committee of electrotechnical standardisation and the European institute of telecommunications models. The foundation of European Delegates of Standardisation CEN and CENELEC aim had the suppression of technical obstacles in the transactions. The sought harmonisation in the frame of Community is achieved with the publication of Directive 83/189/EOK with which is established process of information in the sector of technical models and specifications as well as with the development of European models EN which is henceforth applied obligatorily in national level, suppressing each other opposite national model.

The voluntary Standardisation you condition from basic fundamental beginning. These are the rationalism, the attendance and the consent all interested, the equivalence, the service of existing needs, the transparency, the completed approach and finally the acceptance from interested. The Cypriot Organism of Standardisation (CYS) as national institution of standardisation participates in the European system of Standardisation as complete member of CEN/CENELEC and ETSI. As member of European delegates of standardisation the CYS has obligation to adopt the European models and to withdraw the equivalents national models. Central mission of CYS is the promotion in the industry, the services and generally in all the sectors of Cypriot economy.
