Electrical - Electronic Engineering

The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) is a full member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC).

The main activities of IEC involve the sectors of electromagnetic compatibility, functional safety, plugs and sockets, renewable energies and international system of units. More information about IEC can be found at the website www.iec.ch. On the other side at the European level, CENELEC is responsible for the development of standards in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility, environment, energy management and information and communication technologies. More information about CENELEC can be found at the website www.cenelec.eu.

After Cyprus’s accession in the European Union in 2004 and as a full member of the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC), Cyprus has the obligation to adopt all European standards (ENs), harmonized standards (HDs), technical reports (TRs) and technical specifications (TSs), that are developed under the auspices of CENELEC.

The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS), as the national administrator of the standardisation system, participates at the stages of the development, public enquiry and adoption of the European standards as national ones.

Furthermore, CYS as a full member of CENELEC has the potential and participates to the meetings of the European Technical Committees that develop European standards and has the opportunity to submit comments and observations to the drafts of the European standards. CYS also participates at the stages of public enquiry and formal vote with weighted vote.
