The Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS) has the obligation to adopt the European standards, to withdraw the equivalent national standards, to promote the European standards and to support the industry in their effort of application of all these European Standards.

In order to achieve this smooth adaptation to the European Standardization, the CYS, where it is required, recommends the set up of national technical committees what they study the European standards and they consult CYS proportionally, eg if standards need to be withdrawn, the preparation of national annexes or the development of supplementary standards.

The sector of the Household Goods and Appliances is a sector in which the European Committee of Standardization (CEN) has created a lot of standards, since it concerns directly the consumers and the consuming products. The European Standardization in the specific sector has been developed strongly because of the global interest for the security of consumers.

Standards are worked out with the collaboration of ANEC (European Association for the Coordination of Consumer Representation) and International Organization of Consumers.
