The Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS), in its capacity as the National Standards Body of Cyprus, announces the adoption of ten (10) ISO International Standards as Cyprus National Standards in the fields of organizational governance and compliance.
The initiative forms part of CYS’s mission to promote quality, transparency, effectiveness and sustainable development through standardization. It also expands access for Cypriot organizations to a coherent and internationally recognized framework of principles and good practices supporting sound governance, organizational integrity and effective compliance.
The adopted standards are:
- ISO 37000:2021 – Governance of organizations – Guidance
- ISO 37002:2021 – Whistleblowing management systems – Guidelines
- ISO 37003:2025 – Fraud control management systems – Guidance for organizations managing the risk of fraud
- ISO 37004:2023 – Governance of organizations – Governance maturity model – Guidance
- ISO 37005:2024 – Governance of organizations – Developing indicators for effective governance
- ISO TS 37008:2023 – Internal investigations of organizations – Guidance
- ISO 37009:2025 – Conflict of interest in organizations – Guidance
- ISO 37301:2021 – Compliance management systems – Requirements with guidance for use
ISO 37301:2021 / Amd 1:2024 Amendment 1: Climate action changes
- ISO 37302:2025 – Compliance management systems – Guidance for the evaluation of effectiveness
- ISO 37303:2025 – Compliance management systems – Guidance for competence management
Together, these standards address critical and interconnected areas, including organizational governance, the development and evaluation of compliance management systems, whistleblowing management, fraud prevention and response, conflicts of interest, internal investigations, governance maturity assessment and the development of the competencies required to support effective compliance.
Their adoption at national level is expected to support:
- the establishment of a common, internationally aligned framework for sound governance and compliance
- stronger accountability, transparency, integrity and stakeholder trust
- improved organizational maturity and more effective governance and oversight structures
- enhanced risk management, internal controls and regulatory compliance
- more effective prevention, identification and response to fraud, wrongdoing and conflicts of interest
- greater institutional resilience across public and private sector organizations.
Adoption as Cyprus National Standards does not alter the voluntary nature of their application. Rather, it makes internationally recognized reference frameworks available to public and private sector organizations, which may apply them according to their size, nature, needs and operating context. It should also be noted that ISO 37301 specifies requirements for a compliance management system, whereas the other standards and the technical specification within the suite provide guidance in their respective areas.
The adoption of these ten standards represents an important step towards further strengthening a culture of integrity, accountability and effective governance in Cyprus. It also supports the alignment of Cypriot organizations with contemporary international practices and can contribute to greater confidence among citizens, employees, investors, business partners and competent authorities.
