Scope of Work

As a member of the commttee, you have the opportunity to influence national, European, and international standardisation deliverables in the fields of paints, varnishes, adhesives, metallic and inorganic coatings (including corrosion protection), pigments, extenders, thermal spraying, and coating systems for chemical plants. They define terminology, classification, testing methods, performance criteria and product specifications across coating materials. These standards enhance quality, safety, environmental performance and trade harmonization in coating-related industries.

The scope includes the development of standards and other standardisation deliverables for coatings and related materials used in industrial, construction, chemical, and protective applications. They cover coatings composition (paints, adhesives, pigments), application technologies (thermal spraying, varnishing), and performance in contexts like corrosion protection and chemical exposure. They define test methods, classification systems, terminology, specifications for durability, safety, and environmental impact. Their work supports EU directives on chemicals, product safety, and industrial installations. They facilitate market access and regulatory compliance through harmonized European standards.

As a committee member, you will have the opportunity to participate in international and/or European work. CYS MC 2.01 monitors and contributes to the work of the following European and international technical committees:

European Technical Committees

  • CEN/TC 139 Paints and varnishes
  • CEN/TC 193 Adhesives
  • CEN/TC 262 Metallic and other inorganic coatings, including for corrosion protection and corrosion testing of metals and alloys
  • CEN/TC 298 Pigments and extenders
  • CEN/TC 240 Thermal spraying and thermally sprayed coatings”
  • CEN/TC 360 Coating systems for chemical apparatus and plants against corrosion
