The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS), under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, successfully hosted the CEN and CENELEC Annual Meeting from 16 to 19 June 2026, in Agia Napa, Cyprus.

The four-day event brought together representatives from the wider European standardisation ecosystem, including national, European and international organisations, industry representatives and key stakeholders, providing an important platform for dialogue, cooperation and strategic discussions on the future of European standardisation.

The Annual Meeting took place at a particularly important time for Europe. Participants agreed that the European standardisation system must become faster, more flexible and more responsive to market and policy needs, while preserving its fundamental principles of inclusiveness, consensus, transparency and quality.

Beyond hosting the event, Cyprus played an active role in discussions on the future direction of European standardisation. Through the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, Cyprus demonstrated that it is not only a meeting point for European cooperation, but also a contributor of ideas and proposals, working together with all Member States towards a stronger, more sustainable, resilient and digital Europe.

A key outcome of the Annual Meeting was the unanimous adoption and signing of the “Cyprus Commitment” by the 43 Members of CEN and CENELEC. The Commitment reaffirms their shared ambition to guide the future evolution of the European Standardisation System and reflects a collective determination to ensure that European standardisation remains trusted, relevant and effective in a rapidly changing environment.

The Cyprus Commitment sets a common direction for CEN, CENELEC and their Members, embracing innovation and change while preserving the principles that underpin the European model of standardisation: consensus, national delegation, technical excellence, inclusiveness and trust. It also highlights the commitment to a system that is faster, more digital, more open and better aligned with the needs of industry, policymakers and society.

The successful organisation of the Annual Meeting confirms Cyprus’ growing role within the European standardisation landscape and its commitment to supporting cooperation, innovation and sustainable development through standards. Through the outcomes of the meetings and the adoption of the Cyprus Commitment, Cyprus has reaffirmed its willingness to contribute actively to a stronger, more competitive and resilient Europe.
